Datalogic inaugurates a new production plant in Hungary

Bologna, 16th April 2016 - Datalogic, a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets, and world-class producer of bar code readers, mobile computers, sensors for detection, measurement and safety, vision systems and laser marking equipment, announces the inauguration of a new plant in Balatonboglar, Hungary, covering 7,000 m2 and predominantly dedicated to the production of Factory Automation equipment.

Datalogic has been in Hungary since 2003, following the Joint Venture with company Fonyton kft, and later independently as Datalogic Hungary kft, operating at the Fonyod plant and carrying out assembly and final inspection of a number of products. With the decision to expand its presence in Hungary, a new and modern factory was built in Balatonboglar and may soon become one of the key manufacturing hubs in Europe.

The objective of this investment, amounting to over 9 million Euro during the period 2014-2016, is twofold: on the one hand, to expand production capacity in accordance with the Group's growth plans, and on the other, to ensure greater flexibility and the utmost quality in the production process, thanks to the introduction of three new SMT lines. The cutting edge technology used in the new plant, from installation of the electronic circuit boards (3D-AOI, Flying Probe Testing) to the assembly of finished products (Functional Tests) in Industry 4.0, in conjunction with organisation of the entire process in a single plant, will allow us to achieve continuous flow in production, introducing new know-how, technical capabilities and supplementary technologies, and independently creating, starting from the base components, essential products for the automation of any factory in the world.

Datalogic currently employs approximately 180 employees in Hungary, and it aims to arrive at about 200, strengthening the current staff and line functions (such as quality control and planning, raw materials logistics, components and finished products) and permitting management of additional production activities.

With a warehouse of over 1400 m2, the new production hub of Balatonboglar will also become a logistics centre of excellence for sensors, safety barriers and bar code readers for industrial use, ensuring deliveries even in 24 hours to our clients in over 70 countries.

"This investment is part of Datalogic's worldwide growth strategy to optimise the supply chain. The new plant of the Industrial Automation division is an additional key step in the Group's growth, ensuring that our clients receive the utmost quality and delivery based on their requirements - stated Romano Volta, Chairman and CEO of the Datalogic Group. "From now on, we will be able to satisfy our clients and trade partners throughout the entire world, aiming to become one of the main European production and distribution hubs for optical bar code readers, safety barriers and industrial automation."
